Copper Country Mental Health Services (CCMHS) Institute and Dial Help, Inc. are joining the national initiative to increase mental health literacy by hosting the first Mental Health First Aid training program in Houghton County.
This free Mental Health First Aid training course is scheduled for January 14th & 15th at CCMHS Institute, 900 W. Sharon Avenue in Houghton, from 9:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. and includes materials and lunch. Mental Health First Aid is a 12-hour certification training course designed to give members of the public key skills to help someone who is developing a mental health problem or experiencing a mental health crisis.
The training is available to all organizations and members of the public. Specific audiences include non-mental health professionals such as law enforcement and other first responders, nursing home staff, school and college administration, primary and occupational health care providers, homeless shelters, faith communities, mental health advocacy organizations, community service groups, families, and the general public. The training is limited to 25 participants and the registration deadline is January 11, 2010.
